Monkey's earnest opening set for Bad Manners convinced me to open my wallet after the show. What the hell. CD's are always cheaper at gigs. And I'll be a...monkey's...uncle if I don't enjoy this feelgood third wave ska (don't groan, there's plenty of good third wave ska) blaring over my speakers at home damn near as much as I enjoyed skanking along in concert. Cruel Tutelage feels soulful and authentic, a far cry from the peppy stuff that turns so many third wave ska detractors off.
